More Than Litter Picking
Janet Chisholm nominated for Cheshire's Woman Of The Year
MCT at work
Every year Middlewich Clean Team (MCT) plants flower bulbs in the autumn and flowers in the spring. In keeping with the motto "Love Your Town Keep It Tidy" the MCT shows that a little effort can make a big difference and really brighten the town up as can be seen in their photographic record from previous years.
This year, on the Tuesday 29th May 2012, Brownies, Cubs and other volunteers met up at St. Michaels Church for the MCT Annual Community Planting. Usually bizzy lizzies are planted but last year’s plants succumbed to disease so this year begonias and lobelia have been used instead.
As this is the Queen’s Silver Jubilee year and the public holidays to celebrate it coincided with the planting, it was not hard to choose the colours for the plants – red, white and blue of course. Everyone worked hard and the job was soon finished resulting in a fine floral display. More details.
The work of MCT has not gone unnoticed, consequently MCT founder & Chairperson, Janet Chisholm, was secretly nominated for the Cheshire Woman Of The Year Award 2012. The awards ceremony recently took place in the Long Room at Eaton Hall. Janet set up the Middlewich Clean Team in 2003 and the accolade recognises her service to the community. More details
It’s important to maintain the momentum with public awareness and a significant boost in this respect came when MCT had two visits from the Daily Mail, one on Thursday 3rd May 2012 to find out about their work and the other on Saturday 5th May 2012, to join in a litter pick. The resulting feature 'The town that went to war on litter' appeared in the Daily Mail the following week. Granada Reports followed on with a visit too and that was broadcast on Wednesday 9th May. Both articles portrayed the work of the MCT in respect of dealing with litter and information about the all the other activities MCT is involved in can be found in their website .
The MCT encourages litter picking and so much more.
