Middlewich Clean Team: Love your town- keep it tidy
With groups in Macclesfield, Sandbach and Crewe, Janet Chisholm, who hates litter, wants clean teams everywhere.
The idea came about when business minded Janet made a novelty bin with a silly picture of herself on it to persuade children to use it, which spiralled into asking the council for more bins and then organising community meetings for others to get involved.
What started with three people at one meeting soon turned into hundreds of residents who all wanted to offer a hand in helping keep the town tidy, and thus the ‘Middlewich Clean Team’ (MCT) was created.
Litter picking, planting flowers and educating children are just some of the actions taken by the MCT to ensure that their litter free zone is maintained.
Janet, who is 64, made Stephen Dent vice-chairman and Clean Team fundraiser, along with more than 200 members plus hundreds of other litter-pickers from Brownies to OAPs, the Boys’ Brigade to the Fire Brigade.
For the past nine years, she has spent every second Monday and Saturday litter picking and gives lectures to inspire others.
MCT’s current campaign, ‘Your Town Needs You’ is to encourage more people to volunteer to take part in keeping their streets clean. Anyone who is interested in getting involved or forming their own group should visit their website
